MAIN CHARACTERS | THE VILLAINS

ANDREW RYAN, a.k.a. SMASH
An average kid with a vivid imagination that, unfortunately, doesn't count for much to his teachers when he ignores his homework to play with toys or read comic books. He isn't very athletic or socially assured, which keeps him distant from his classmates. Once he becomes Smash, he has to figure out how to negotiate a crimefighting career with homework, chores, curfew, and divorced parents splitting custody. It isn't easy. Like so many things in life, the idea of being a superhero turns out to be more fun than the reality. Somedays Andrew would rather sit at home with the freedom of every other ten-year-old kid than fly out to save the world. But as Andrew will learn, being a true hero means sacrificing what you want for the greater good.

HELEN, Andrew's Mother
A nurse working double shifts to raise her two boys, pretty much by herself. Most days she's too tired and worn-out to keep an eye on her children -- especially Andrew, the younger, less trouble-prone one. But when she comes home one late night to find Andrew missing, there are going to be serious repercussions.

THOMAS, Andrew's Father
A salesman who lost his job and struggles to make ends meet. He wants to help raise his kids, but money seems to slip away from him and his own disappointment keeps him at a remove. Now that Tom, Jr. will barely speak to him, Thomas relies on Andrew for support -- which makes it doubly difficult for Andrew to keep his secret identity.

TOM, JR., Andrew's Older Brother
Fourteen years old and embracing all the worst traits of that age, Tom has taken his parents' divorce hard and fallen in with a bad crowd. Once close to his younger brother, he now keeps Andrew at a distance. While Tom's misbehaving does a nice job of deflecting their parents' attention away from Andrew, it's only a matter of time before Tom falls too far.

DEFENDER The last living superhero -- but not for long. Ambushed by the Magus, Defender is blasted into the air like a comet... and obliterated. His spirit possesses the only surviving part of his suit, the gloves.

THE WRAITH An old-school superhero from the heyday of the Sixties who finally retired during the dark-and-gritty era of the Eighties, now restless in his retirement. The Wraith could turn himself intangible with the press of a well-concealed button, passing through any and all solid objects like a ghost. Smash tracks the Wraith down to lure him out of retirement and serve as Smash's mentor.
